UMBC | THE CENTER FOR WELL-BEING
HEALTHCARE / HIGHER ED
The Center for Well-Being achieves important goals for the University of Maryland, Baltimore County. It replaced the deteriorating Student Development and Success Center, co-locating campus health services and counseling in one building, and providing convenient access to health and well-being services to residential and non-residential students, all while locating the new facility close by existing residential communities (but not within them). The 2-story lobby features a stunning all-glass entrance wall and dramatic light sculpture, showcasing the aesthetic possibilities of off-site modular construction. At the same time, the multi-disciplinary features within The Center -- including triage, lab, admin, and spa spaces, as well as exam, counseling, spiritual advising, and conference rooms -- highlight off-site modular construction’s functional versatility. It allows the Counseling Center and University Health Services to expand their outreach, services, and mission while simultaneously providing enhanced facilities for Spirituality and Meditation and a new home for the offices of Student Conduct and Community Standards. MODLOGIQ delivered key advantages over conventional site construction. The schedule was accelerated by months, allowing The Center to open in time for the fall semester. It dramatically reduced campus disruption, with months of construction activity taking place more than 100 miles away in our New Holland, PA plant. The project still finished on budget without delays.
